Lens View Week 6

Location : Nagerhole Karnataka
Exif : Shutter 1/320s, ISO 360, f/6.3

Contrasting Sizes can give a good perspective in photographic compositions. We initially had a large herd of elephants clearing the road, and then this mother arrived with its beautiful baby. It is always a sight , and being large in size they are always good to photograph with any lens

Name : Indian Elephant  (Elephas maximus indicus)

Indian elephants are considered an endangered species. These elephants once roamed across most of Asia, but their range has been reduced to about five percent of its original area and is highly fragmented. The habitats of the Indian elephant are varied, but all are within the tropical region. Elephants are also highly social and travel in herds and can quickly trample agricultural fields as they travel over them. No wonder conflicts occur between humans as they compete for the same resources, like the recent news in Kerala.

Indian elephant, or Gaja (गज– a Sanskrit word) finds references in Hindu scriptures , Buddhist and Jain texts and have special place in Indian culture. In general, a gaja personifies a number of positive attributes, including abundance, fertility and richness; boldness and strength; and wisdom and royalty. All of us have heard the stories of Ganesha and Gajendra moksha. Every traditional temple in India has an elephant in its courtyard. Elephants are iconic in every sense, and the Mysore Dussehra is never complete without its Jumbu Savaari.

Let us respect these majestic elephants not just in temples , but also in wild. Don’t Shoot them, shoot them on your Camera, and connect with them in nature.
